Spring Fest 2015: Reign Cane

IMG_1599It’s the end of the school year, and to a typical college student that means a mass of papers, projects and tests. At The University of Tulsa, however, we combat the stress of pre-finals week with one of the most highly anticipated events of the year—Springfest!

Every April, Student Association sponsors a week of fun activities, free food, raffles, giveaways, and much more, all leading up to a concert that is free to TU students. Here’s a look at the fun we had at this year’s Springfest!

We started off the week with tons of free food, snow cones, free T-Shirts, and listened to live music from local bands outside on Chapman Commons.

Movie night! We watched Pitch Perfect on a big screen in the Reynolds Center and had free popcorn, candy and soda.

On Wednesday, multiple food trucks lined the Chapman Commons, and all students were given $11 worth of food tickets to use at whatever trucks they wanted! Additionally, we had a mini-music festival with tons of local bands!

Thursday was by far my favorite day of Springfest. A huge art fair was set up outside by the campus fountains. We painted canvas shoes (which were free), tie-dyed shirts and headbands, painted canvases, and strung beads. Additionally there were henna tattoo artists and caricature artists, which were both a blast! Finally, as with all Springfest events, there was free food.

Before the concert on Friday night, we had a pizza party and prize giveaway. Sadly, I wasn’t too lucky in the raffle… but a lot of other students landed some really awesome prizes! Gift cards, cameras, and iPads are just a few of the numerous prizes that Student Association gives away at campus events.

Concert (Friday Night)
The artist at this year’s Springfest was Hoodie Allen! The best part about it was that the concert is free to all TU Students! So many students attended the concert, and everyone had a great time taking a quick break from the stress of classes before gearing up for finals.

Springtime on Campus

Today’s Tuesday with Tulsa blog post comes to us from Lizzie R., a communications major from Little Rock, Ark.

When I started writing this post, my goal was to write about my favorite TU tradition. What I quickly learned is that I don’t have one. I have a favorite season!

The warm, bright and colorful months of SPRING are what I love most! I am so grateful to live on such an amazing and exuberant campus that is always full of energy. But during the gorgeous spring weather Tulsa’s features really shine. And the events that take place on campus once the temperature warms up make spring worth waiting for.

Imagine Dragons and the Beginning of Springfest

Spring is on its way!  These past couple of weeks have been very busy, as I’m sure most of you can understand.  One of the events the Student Association (SA) puts on is Springfest, which is a week of fun activities that give us things to look forward to when finals are quickly approaching.  This week is Springfest, but last week is when the SA got the Imagine Dragons to come and play for us which was pretty amazing!  TU students got in for free which is an extra bonus! They also sold over 4000 tickets to the public which meant there was a huge crowd!  My friends and I were the first people at the barricade and Dan Reynolds gave us all high-fives.  We also shared a moment during Underdog, when he pointed to me and sang the verse while I sang along and our eyes locked.  I know realistically this doesn’t make us best friends but I like to imagine it does! It was an awesome night with an amazing band of really genuine guys! Springfest is this week and the theme is “The Wonderful World of TU,” so an example of some of the fun events that will be taking place are, Lilo and Stitch Luau, Mulan Training Camp, Princess and the Frog Mardi Gras Carnival, Toy Story Pizza Planet Arcade, and Cinderella Carriage Rides with the Cinderella Ball later that night! Lots of activities and lots of fun is on the agenda for this week here at TU!!

Also for the encore they all came out wearing TU t-shirts and they said they wanted a piece of TU and Oklahoma to take back with them, which was incredibly cool!:

At the end of the concert they gave the set list to Jennifer, who lives in my suite, which as crazy! Just in case you’re wondering what they played here it is!:
